8th August 1955: Sam leaps into the body of Sheriff Clayton Fuller, as he pulls the corpse of local man Bart Aider from the waters of a Louisiana river. With Al and Ziggy unable to help because the town’s records were destroyed in a flood, Sam struggles to unravel the events surrounding the murder – only to discover that Fuller’s ten-year-old daughter Abagail was the last person to see Bart alive, when they argued over a locket belonging to the man’s dead daughter, Violet. The mystery deepens when Sam apparently sees the ghost of Fuller’s late wife, Laura, and then learns that all Laura's siblings were killed by her mother, who then went on to commit suicide. The following morning, Bart’s widow, Leta, accuses Abagail of killing her husband and her daughter. As Sam and Al are forced to consider whether Abagail really could be capable of murder, they learn that Laura is still alive and living in a catatonic state in a nearby mental hospital…
